How we compared them
A coaching service and an app, so no scorecard
Comparing a human coaching relationship with software on a points scale would not be fair to either. Each section below names the best fit for a specific need instead. Tread details come from Tread's website and its App Store listing as of October 2026. Pitch AI details come from our app code and published pricing. Pitch AI has no affiliation with Tread Athletics.
Coaching model
A dedicated human coach vs a daily plan in your pocket
Tread describes itself as "the world's largest 1:1 remote coaching service for pitchers." Its high school and college pages lay out the process: you are matched with one of "over four-dozen" performance coaches, you complete a remote assessment of movement, mechanics, strength and mobility, and arsenal, and you receive a 365-day training plan with monthly updates. Ongoing support runs through the Tread+ app, with daily questions, weekly phone or video calls, and video submissions for breakdowns. Optional in-person visits to Tread's 33,000 square foot facility in the Charlotte area are available as an add-on.
That is a real strength. A coach who knows your history, watches your video every week, and adjusts your plan is something an app cannot fully replicate.
Pitch AI does not assign a coach. It builds a personalized throwing and strength program from your profile, goals, season phase (offseason, preseason, in-season, or return to throw), schedule, readiness, and recovery, and it updates the plan as you log sessions. The programming rules were written by Pitch AI's founder, Anthony Osnacz, and the drill videos are human-made. AI is used for the mechanics video analyzer, not to invent workouts.
Tread. A named coach, weekly calls, and a plan written for you.
Pitch AI. Structured daily programming without a coaching contract.
What is included
Both cover more than throwing
Tread lists throwing programming, biomechanical analysis with weekly breakdowns, pitch design and arsenal optimization, command training and mental preparation, strength and conditioning, mobility and movement prep, nutrition and recovery guidance, data analysis and outing reviews, therapy, rehab, and arm care protocols, and access to bonus recruiting events.
Pitch AI includes a personalized throwing program, strength and conditioning programming, daily readiness check-ins, workload management, AI mechanics video analysis, pitch design recommendations with a grip video library, Rapsodo and TrackMan data import, and nutrition tracking with AI meal and label scanning. It does not include mental skills coaching, recruiting events, or rehab services.
Tread. Human-delivered mental, rehab, and recruiting support on top of training.
Pitch AI. Plan, logging, readiness, mechanics, and nutrition in one app.
Workload and readiness
Coach judgment vs a transparent workload engine
Tread lists arm care and data analysis among its services. Its public pages do not describe a specific workload formula, which is normal for a coaching service: your coach individualizes volume and intensity based on what they see and hear from you.
Pitch AI uses a written, consistent method. It estimates daily throwing workload from the throws, intent level, and session type you log, then compares a 7-day acute load with a 28-day chronic load using exponentially weighted moving averages. Target ranges shift by season phase, and a guardrail flags ratios above 1.50 that persist over consecutive days. A daily check-in covering readiness, soreness, sleep, stress, arm freshness, and elbow, shoulder, and back pain can change that day's intensity and volume, and age-based Pitch Smart rest is applied after logged games. The aim is to build capacity steadily, not just to throw less. Pain is a signal to stop and see a qualified clinician.
Tread. A coach who can weigh context a formula cannot.
Pitch AI. Workload ratio and check-ins change the plan the same day.
Mechanics feedback
Weekly human breakdowns vs instant video analysis
Tread athletes submit video for biomechanical breakdowns from their coach, with weekly breakdowns listed among its services. A trained eye reviewing your delivery over months is valuable, especially for complex changes.
Pitch AI lets you upload a delivery video and get quick, athlete-friendly feedback on visible mechanical priorities whenever you want it. It is not motion capture and does not replace a coach. You can also log velocity from your own radar, but Pitch AI does not measure velocity with the camera.
Tread. Coach-led video breakdowns tied to your plan.
Pitch AI. Upload and get feedback in the app.
Ages and equipment
Who each one is built for
Tread works with high school, college, and professional athletes, and about 10 percent of its clients are position players, per its homepage. Its FAQ gives a general age cutoff of 14, and its high school page says remote training is not recommended for athletes younger than high school age, because the work is self-directed. Recommended equipment includes gym access, a place to throw, a mound, plyo balls, bands, and a radar gun, though Tread says coaches adapt the plan to what you have.
Pitch AI builds programs for younger pitchers too and applies age-based Pitch Smart rest days after logged games. It runs on iPhone, Android, and the web, and it adapts plans to the equipment and schedule you enter.
Tread, especially for committed athletes with gym access.

Our take
Which one fits you
Choose Tread Athletics if...
- You want a dedicated coach who reviews your video and talks with you every week.
- You are high school age or older and ready for a 12-month commitment.
- You want mental training, rehab support, or recruiting events in the same service.
- You may want to train in person at a facility during the year.
Choose Pitch AI if...
- You want a structured throwing and strength plan without a coaching contract.
- You want workload and daily readiness to adjust the plan automatically.
- You are a younger pitcher or a parent who wants Pitch Smart rest built in.
- You want published pricing starting at $6.99 per month on the web.
If you are already a Tread athlete, follow your coach's plan rather than layering a second program on top. Two throwing programs at once make workload harder to manage, not easier.
Frequently asked questions
Pitch AI vs Tread Athletics FAQs
How much does Tread Athletics cost?
Tread does not publish prices. As of October 2026, its FAQ says it charges an assessment fee and a monthly fee, athletes commit to 12 months, and payment can be annual or monthly. It says pricing varies and asks athletes to reach out for an accurate answer.
Is Tread Athletics available for youth pitchers?
Tread says it works with high school, college, and professional athletes, and its FAQ gives a general age cutoff of 14 because remote training is self-directed. Pitch AI can be used by younger pitchers and applies age-based Pitch Smart rest after games.
Does Pitch AI give me a personal coach?
No. Pitch AI's programming logic was written by a person and its drill videos are human-made, but there is no assigned 1:1 coach. If your own coach uses Coach View, they can review your readiness and assign programming. Tread's model is built around a dedicated human coach.
Can I use Pitch AI while training with Tread?
If you are a Tread athlete, follow your Tread coach's plan. Running two throwing programs at once makes workload harder to manage. Talk with your coach before adding any other program.
