How we compared them
Different products, so no scorecard
A sensor, a coaching service, and an app solve different problems. Declaring one "winner" across all of them would not be honest. Instead, each section below says which option is the best fit for a specific need. Driveline details come from Driveline's own website and App Store listings, checked as of October 2026. Pitch AI details come from our app code and published pricing.
A disclosure: Pitch AI's founder, Anthony Osnacz, is a former Driveline Baseball high performance coach. Pitch AI is not affiliated with Driveline. We have tried to describe Driveline's products the way Driveline describes them.
Workload and arm stress
Measured per throw vs estimated from your log
Driveline Pulse is a hardware sensor. Driveline's product page says it "measures all throws" to show whether pitchers are throwing too much or too little, too hard or not hard enough, and it reports throw counts, intensity, Pulse Arm Speed, and Pulse Torque, with a Live Mode that gives feedback after every throw. The Pulse throw app on the App Store says the sensor is worn on the forearm, and Driveline sells a compression sleeve with a pocket that holds it.
Driveline has published how Pulse workload works. Per-throw workload is based on elbow valgus torque normalized to the athlete's height and weight. Acute workload is a weighted average of daily workload over the previous 9 days, and chronic workload is the average over the previous 28 days. That is real, measured data for every throw, including the catch play and recovery days athletes tend to forget, and it is a genuine strength that no logging app can match.
Pitch AI does not use a sensor. It estimates daily throwing workload from what you log: throw count, intent level, and session type. It then compares a 7-day acute load with a 28-day chronic load using exponentially weighted moving averages, and blends in your onboarding throwing history when data is sparse. Target ranges change with season phase, and a guardrail flags ratios above 1.50 that persist over consecutive days. The difference is what happens next: Pitch AI adjusts the plan's volume and intensity automatically, and pairs it with a daily check-in (readiness, soreness, sleep, stress, arm freshness, and elbow, shoulder, and back pain) and age-based Pitch Smart rest after games.
A 2020 systematic review in Sports Medicine supported the acute to chronic workload ratio as part of a larger, multifaceted monitoring system and found the EWMA method more sensitive than rolling averages. It is not a standalone injury predictor in either product. If something hurts, stop throwing and see a qualified clinician.
Driveline Pulse. It records every throw with a sensor, including arm speed and torque.
Pitch AI. No hardware, and the workload ratio directly changes tomorrow's throwing.
Programming and coaching
A human trainer vs a self-directed daily plan
Driveline's high school pitching page describes an assessment of "your pitches, delivery, capacity, command, and workload," after which "your trainer turns the assessment into daily programming in the app." As of October 7, 2026, that page names the tools involved: Driveline Roadmap (the development system inside the app that shows daily training priorities), Smart Reports, Intended Zones for command, Trainer Chat, and Pulse workload tracking, with remote training delivered through app-based programming, video and trainer feedback. The free Driveline Training app (iPhone and iPad) handles scheduling, program management, video instruction, data analysis, Pulse integration, and messaging with coaches. Youth assessments for ages 9 to 14 are held in person in Kent, WA, Scottsdale, AZ, and Tampa, FL, per Driveline's youth page.
Pitch AI does not assign you a human trainer. It builds a personalized throwing program from your profile, goals, season phase (offseason, preseason, in-season, or return to throw), schedule, readiness, and recovery, along with strength and conditioning work. The programming rules were written by a person, not generated by AI, and the drill videos are human-made. AI is used for the mechanics video analyzer.
Driveline training. A trainer assesses you, writes your plan, and reviews your work.
Pitch AI. A complete daily plan without a coaching contract.
Team and facility platforms
TRAQ vs Coach View
TRAQ is Driveline's athlete management platform. Driveline calls it "the one stop shop for your player development and baseball technology needs," with workout planning, progress tracking, video storage, reports, and roster management. It lists integrations with Rapsodo, 6-4-3 Charts, Blast, TrackMan, Pocket Radar, Diamond Kinetics, and PitchLogic, and says it is trusted by over 3,000 facilities and schools. For a facility juggling several technologies, that breadth is a major advantage.
Pitch AI's Coach View is narrower and pitching-specific: a roster, daily readiness review, an Acute:Chronic Ratio trend chart for each athlete, a team calendar, and the choice of coach-written or Pitch AI programming. Pitch AI can import Rapsodo and TrackMan data from CSV exports or screenshots, but it does not offer TRAQ's range of hardware integrations.
TRAQ. Many integrations and multi-sport player development tools.
Coach View. Published team pricing and built-in programming.
Mechanics and pitch design
Lab-grade assessment vs fast video feedback
Driveline evaluates delivery and pitches as part of its assessment and also sells Launchpad, which it describes as a baseball lab for facilities, with composite pitching scores for arm action, block, posture, rotation, and momentum. That level of measurement is beyond what a phone app does.
Pitch AI lets you upload a delivery video and get quick, athlete-friendly feedback on visible mechanical priorities. It is not motion capture and does not replace a lab or a coach. For pitch design, Pitch AI uses imported ball-flight data, a grip video library, and recommendation rules to help you shape pitches. You can log velocity from your own radar, but the app does not measure it.
Driveline. In-person assessment and lab technology.
Pitch AI. Video analysis and pitch design tools on your phone.

Using them together
Can you use Pulse and Pitch AI at the same time?
Yes, with one caveat. Pitch AI does not integrate with Pulse as of October 2026, so nothing syncs between them. A pitcher could wear Pulse for measured throw data and still follow Pitch AI's programming, logging throw counts and intent in the app. Just know that the two systems calculate workload differently, so their ratios will not match. Pick one as the plan you follow and use the other as context.
If you are already training with a Driveline trainer, follow that plan. Running two throwing programs at once makes workload harder to manage, not easier.

Frequently asked questions
Pitch AI vs Driveline FAQs
Does Pitch AI work with Driveline Pulse?
No. As of October 2026, Pitch AI does not import or sync data from Pulse. You can wear Pulse and still log your throws and intent in Pitch AI by hand, but the two systems calculate workload differently, so pick one plan as your source of truth.
Does Pitch AI measure arm stress like a wearable sensor?
No. Pitch AI estimates daily throwing workload from the throws, intent level, and session type you log. It does not measure arm speed or elbow torque, and it is not a radar gun. Pulse is a hardware sensor built to measure each throw.
How much do Pulse, TRAQ, and Driveline training cost?
As of October 2026, Driveline's site lists the Pulse Throw Workload Monitor at $245.00 and the Pulse Compression Sleeve at $24.00 (listed as sold out on October 7, 2026). TRAQ pricing and coached training pricing were not published on the pages we reviewed; Driveline asks you to contact its team. Pitch AI is $2.99 weekly, $6.99 monthly, or $69.99 annually on the web, and $3.99, $9.99, or $99.99 in the iOS app on the US App Store.
Can Pitch AI replace training at Driveline?
No. An app cannot replace an in-person assessment, a lab, or a human trainer who knows you. Pitch AI is built to give a pitcher a structured daily plan and fast feedback at a lower cost, and it can be a good fit when coached training is not realistic.
Does an acute to chronic workload ratio predict injury?
Not on its own. A 2020 systematic review supports the ratio as one useful part of a larger monitoring system, not a standalone predictor. Both Pulse and Pitch AI use it to guide how fast workload builds. If you have pain, stop throwing and see a qualified clinician.
