How we compared them

Different jobs, so no single winner

We compared the two apps on what they measure, pitch design, training plan and workload, coach tools and cost. PitchLab details come from its US App Store listing, including its in-app purchase list, checked as of October 2026. Pitch AI details come from our app code and published pricing.

A disclosure: this page is published by Pitch AI. One more note on names: Pitch AI's own pitch design tab is also called Pitch Lab. It has no connection to PitchLab AI, Inc. or its app.

01

Measurement

Pitch flight data vs none

PitchLab says it turns your iPhone into "a professional-grade pitch tracking system, no extra hardware required." Its listing names pitch velocity, vertical and horizontal break, active spin and spin axis, all from a single iPhone camera, with results in real time, automatic video trimming around each throw and a tracer overlay that shows how the ball moves. It was built by computer vision expert Dr. Brian Martin and MLB pitcher Jake Fishman, and it has 4.74 stars from 2,137 ratings on the US App Store, a strong record for an app released in September 2025.

PitchLab describes its accuracy as "competitive accuracy to radar based technology." That is the company's description; we did not find an independent validation study, which is common for new tracking tools. If exact numbers matter for a decision, compare a few sessions against a radar or tracker you trust.

Pitch AI does not measure velocity, spin or movement. It is not a radar gun and has no camera tracking. You can log velocity readings from your own radar or tracker, and the app uses what you log.

Best for measuring pitches

PitchLab. Velocity, break and spin from an iPhone camera, with video of every pitch.

Not built for measuring

Pitch AI does not measure pitches. Use a tracker and log or import the data.

02

Pitch design

Data collection vs recommendations from data

PitchLab gives you the raw material for pitch design: how each pitch moves and spins, tracked over time with goals and progress tracking. Its listing says you can export a whole session as one video for playback and sharing.

Pitch AI works one step later. Its pitch design tools import CSV exports from TrackMan, Rapsodo, Yakkertech, FlightScope, PitchLogic and other trackers that include the required metrics, or a screenshot that you review before saving. From that data it shows pitch recommendations and arsenal views, alongside a pitch grip library and your own recorded grip videos. We have not tested a direct workflow from PitchLab into Pitch AI, and PitchLab's listing describes session exports as video, so treat any combination of the two as manual for now.

Best for collecting pitch data cheaply

PitchLab. Tracking without buying radar hardware.

Best for turning data into an arsenal plan

Pitch AI. Imports tracker exports and suggests pitches and grips.

03

Training plan and workload

What to do next week

PitchLab's listing focuses on tracking, review and goals. It does not describe a throwing program, readiness check-ins or workload tracking, so you would plan training separately.

That plan is Pitch AI's main job. It builds a weekly throwing program in progressive blocks from age, playing level, years pitching, recent pitch counts, available days and equipment, season phase and goal, with strength and conditioning alongside it. A daily check-in (readiness, soreness, pain and sleep) adjusts the day, logged throws feed an acute:chronic workload ratio trend with 0.80 to 1.30 as the steady-build range, and Pitch Smart rest days are applied after logged games. The aim is to build capacity steadily, so more high-intent work becomes possible over a season. Pitch AI also includes an AI mechanics report from a one-pitch clip.

Best for seeing what each pitch did

PitchLab. Session review and progress tracking for your metrics.

Best for deciding what to train

Pitch AI. A full throwing and strength plan that responds to workload and readiness.

04

Coaches and parents

Profiles and remote data vs program management

PitchLab's listing says coaches and facilities can track players' pitch metrics and video, analyze trends over time, see video and data from clients training remotely, and create profiles for each pitcher. It sells separate Parent and Coach plans.

Pitch AI's Coach View is an annual team plan for running a pitching staff: roster invites with guardian consent, program templates or Pitch AI programming, a team calendar with schedule import, read-only athlete wellness and logs, and an acute:chronic trend for each pitcher. Every roster seat includes full athlete access.

Best for remote pitch data

PitchLab Coach. Metrics and video from every pitcher you coach.

Best for team programming

Using them together

Should you use PitchLab and Pitch AI together?

This is one of the few comparisons where using both makes plain sense, because they barely overlap. PitchLab can tell you how hard you threw and how the ball moved in a bullpen. Pitch AI can plan the week around that bullpen, track the workload, and help you think about which pitch shapes fit your arm.

In practice, you would log velocity readings in Pitch AI by hand and use Pitch AI's pitch design import with data from a tracker that exports CSV files. Keep your throwing logged in Pitch AI so the workload ratio reflects every bullpen you film.

Our take

Which one fits you

Most pitchers comparing these two apps are really asking two different questions: how good are my pitches right now, and what should I do this week to get better. PitchLab answers the first one well and at a low cost. Pitch AI answers the second one. If you can afford one app, pick the question that matters more to you this season; if you can afford both, they complement each other better than almost any other pair in this category.

A practical routine for a high school or college pitcher could be: film bullpens with a tracking app to see velocity and movement, log the bullpen and its intent in Pitch AI so workload stays accurate, and revisit pitch design every few weeks with the data you have collected.

Choose PitchLab if...

  • You want velocity, break and spin numbers without buying radar hardware.
  • You want video of every pitch with a tracer overlay to share.
  • You coach and want metrics from pitchers training remotely.
  • You already have a training plan and need measurement.

Choose Pitch AI if...

  • You need a throwing and strength program, not measurement.
  • You want readiness and workload to shape each day.
  • You have tracker exports and want pitch design recommendations.
  • You train on Android, or coach a team that needs program management.
